September 20, 1911: One Hundred Years Ago Today

From Tryggve Gran’s Cape Evans Diary September 20, 1911:

“Meares and I have talked about Amundsen’s chances.  He is a dog man, thinks Amundsen’s chances are golden, alway provided he lasts out the winter alright.  The weather is stormy and horrible.”

From Tryggve Gran’s Cape Evans Diary September 21, 1911:

“I saw Scott’s plan for the journey today.  My goodness, it is an involved proposition.  The thought behind it is no doubt marvellous, if only he can carry it out.”
