–from Edward Wilson’s sledging diary–

“A very cold grey thick day with a persistent breeze from the S.S.E. which we all felt considerably, but temp. was only -18 at lunch and – 15 in the evening.   Now just over 40 miles from the Pole in 89 degrees 20′ about.  The surface was not much marked by sastrugi anywhere todeay and was uniform deep crystalline snow without crusts.”
