January 16, 1912: Optimism for the last supporting party

“On January 16 we covered between eighteen and twenty miles [on the northward, homeward-bound journey], and were in very high spirits, as we were not more than fourteen miles from the Cloudmaker, or Mid Glacier Depot, which we expected to reach the next day.  We had plenty of food in hand, and the outlook indicated very fine weather to come.”
