April 30, 1912: A tea party in Queen Mary Land at Wild’s Camp

–from Wild’s account published in “The Home of the Blizzard”–

“Late in April, Kennedy, Harisson and Jones built an igloo to be used as a magnetic observatory.  On the afternoon of the 30th, the magnetitian invited everyone to a tea-party in the igloo to celebrate the opening.  He had the place very nicely decorated with flags, and after the reception and the formal inspection of instruments, we were served with quite a good tea.  The outside temperature was -33 F. and it was not much higher in the igloo.  As a result, no one extended his visit beyond the bounds of politeness.”
