–from Sir James Wordie’s diary–
” 21 March. I was pretty tired and would have been glad to have turned in, had not the Boss asked Clark and myself along to his cabin for coffee. He has just had the Shore Party Library of about 300 volumes put in there and is going to start a habit of entertaining a few people there every evening, this being the first of the sort. The Boss himself gets little sleep at present, such is his anxiety over the changes in the ice; the night watch is now doubled and a report is made to him every hour.”
