“October 5th, Tuesday. Turned out at 6 o’clock. Weather atrocious. Blizzarding too bad for travelling, had a lazy day, eating and arguing. Temp. -26.4º.
“October 6th. Turned out at 6 o’clock. Weather overcast. After breakfast proceeded to Safety Camp with 600 lbs. provisions. Came on to blizzard, force 60 to 70. Richards and Hayward, who were left at Hut Point, killed 12 seals. Temp -26º. Distance 14 miles.”
